The County Council has a statutory duty to provide sufficient school places for all children who need a place. Increasing provision for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) through the creation of additional places in Special Support Centres (SSCs) will assist with the aim of enabling children to attend school locally.
In line with this aim, in September 2022 the then Cabinet Member for Learning and Skills approved the allocation of funding to provide the necessary accommodation at Maidenbower Infant School for the establishment of a Special Support Centre for 12 children aged 4 to 7 with Social Communication Needs (decision LS07(22/23) refers).
A procurement has been undertaken and this report seeks approval to award the contract for the works to remodel the area formerly used for nursery provision into an SSC at Maidenbower Infant School.
