Variation to Extend Contract for Provision for Children, Young People and Family/Carers and Adults who use Alcohol/Drugs

The County Council currently provides services to support children, young people and adults affected by alcohol and other drug use, and their families and carers in West Sussex within the framework for residential and rehabilitation and inpatient detoxification. The service is an all age, county wide service working with people who misuse alcohol and drugs and provides:

-              Harm reduction and needle syringe provision

-              Engagement and early interventions

-              Structured treatment including specialist prescribing

-              Assessment for onward referral to detox and residential rehabilitation

-              Blood Borne Virus testing and vaccination

-              Education, training and employment support

-              Peer mentoring

-              Support to families and carers

The current contracts expire in May 2023 and June 2023 respectively. A waiver to extend the contracts for an additional 4 months until 30th September 23 has been approved.  To allow additional time to ensure a successful competitive re-procurement of these services enabling response to the recently published National Drug Strategy and further implementation guidance published April 2022 including changing expectations of partners including members of the Safer West Sussex Partnership, the Director for Public Health will be asked to approve this extension to the current contracts to 30th September 2023.
