Information about West Sussex Health and Wellbeing Board

West Sussex Health and Wellbeing Board

The Health and Wellbeing Board brings together elected councillors and key systems leaders from West Sussex’s health and social care system to improve the health and wellbeing of our residents, reduce the gap in health inequalities, and promote joined up working across the health and social care system to ensure better quality services for all. This includes the County Council, district and borough councils, the NHS, acute, community and mental health trusts, and the voluntary and community sector.

The Board recognises that to improve health and wellbeing, and to tackle health inequalities, we have to work together; our strength lies in our position as systems leaders, and our ability to champion the actions of our own and partner’s organisations.

This whole systems approach is particularly pertinent during these challenging times both locally and nationally, and we want to reassure our local population that our Board members, our systems leaders, are working together tirelessly to make the most effective use of our combined resources, to protect and support our residents and communities.

About the Board

The Health and Wellbeing Board is a forum where key leaders from the health and care system work together to improve the health and wellbeing of their local population and reduce health inequalities.

The Board helps to give communities a greater say in understanding and addressing their local health and social care needs. To find more detailed information about the Board (and how it operates), see Part 3, the Scheme of Delegation, in the County Council’s Constitution library.

Our vision and plans

It is our vision that:

‘West Sussex is a great place in which to grow up, achieve, raise a family and grow old, in strong, safe and sustainable communities – it is a place where improved health and wellbeing is experienced by all our residents, and the health and wellbeing gap between communities is reducing.’

We work on a number of priorities and plans which supports this vision and are brought together in our Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy (JHWS) (PDF, 3MB) (opens in new window)
