The County Council is required to prepare a Minerals and Waste Development Scheme which sets out how the County Council will prepare the minerals and waste local plans and other policy documents over a rolling three-year period.
The current Scheme covers the period 2019-2022 and needs to be updated; the decision report will consider the revised Scheme for the period 2020-2023.
The Cabinet Member for Environment has approved the West Sussex Minerals and Waste Development Scheme 2020-2023 (attached as Appendix A to the report).
18 January 2021 – update
In accordance with this decision, which came into effect on 28 April 2020, and the Minerals and Waste Development Scheme 2020-23 (MWDS), West Sussex County Council (jointly with the South Downs National Park Authority) has been preparing a Soft Sand Review of the West Sussex Joint Minerals Local Plan (SSR).
The SSR was submitted to government for examination in April 2020, in accordance with the timetable set out in the MWDS and examination hearings took place in August 2020.
Following the hearing sessions, the Government-appointed Inspector indicated that the submitted changes need to be modified to make them ‘sound’ and suitable for adoption.
Due to the requirement to undertake modifications, the timetable set out within the MWDS (page 10) has slipped and the Director of Highways, Transport and Planning has amended the timetable so that it is up to date for three key stages:
The amended timetable is set out below. The previous dates have been struck through and new dates added.
