Decision details

Proposed increase in space at Manor Green Primary School, Crawley - ES16(18/19)

Decision Maker: Cabinet Member for Education and Skills

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

The County Council has a statutory duty to provide sufficient school places for all children who need a place.  The County Council has been closely monitoring the number of pupils across the county and this number has been rising for the last five years, including the number of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

In order to meet the growth in the number of pupils with SEND in the Crawley area, the County Council proposes expanding Manor Green Primary School to provide additional places for vulnerable pre-school and primary aged children ranging in age from two to eleven years old.  This would enable the school to expand to a capacity of up to 200 planned places by September 2019 (the former capacity was 164 places).  A statutory notice to this effect was published in the week commencing 8 October 2018 in line with Department for Education statutory guidance to make prescribed alterations to schools.

A public consultation between 8 October and 13 November 2018 sought comments on the proposal and the outcome of this is set out in section 3 of the report.

Decision:

The Cabinet Member for Education and Skills has approved a statutory notice to increase space at Manor Green Primary School from September 2019.
