Recommendation of a provider to run the new Burgess Hill Northern Arc All-Through School - LS13 (21/22)

Decision Maker: Cabinet Member for Learning and Skills (Cllr Nigel Jupp)

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

In response to a significant housing development to the North of Burgess Hill, known as the Northern Arc, and a large number of smaller developments in the Haywards Heath and Hassocks areas, it is necessary to commission a new all-through school (for children aged 4 – 16) with additional Early Years and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) facilities.  Two sites have been identified in the Northern Arc masterplan for this school and additional facilities to be constructed.

West Sussex County Council has sought applications to sponsor the school from academy trusts who have a proven track record of improving educational attainment for children and young people, including those with SEND within a fully inclusive environment.

Following a competitive process assessed by an Evaluation Panel an academy trust has been identified as the County Council’s preferred sponsor to run the new all through school.  The Regional Schools Commissioner, through delegated powers from the Secretary of State for Education, will make the final decision on the sponsor which is likely to be announced in the Spring of 2022.

Decision:

The Cabinet Member for Learning and Skills has approved a recommendation to the Secretary of State for Education regarding which academy trust should sponsor the Burgess Hill Northern Arc all through school.
