Purpose:

The Worthing Growth Programme (2017) identified a Worthing Public Realm Improvements (WPRI)programme in Worthing town centre to support the revival of the local economy by improving the quality and accessibility of public areas connecting Worthing station, the town centre and the seafront.

 

The Executive Director Place Services confirmed progression to the detailed design stage of the Railway Approach project in December 2021 (OKD33 21/22) and endorsed funding arrangements.

 

Decision:

The Cabinet Member for Support Services and Economic Development is asked to:

1) endorse the completed detailed design of the Railway Approach Scheme, Worthing as set out at Paragraph 2 and Appendix A and the progression of the scheme; and

2) approve £0.676m for the scheme from the Worthing Public Realm allocation in the capital programme, transfer of £1.481 of underspends from the Portland Road project and a carry forward of £0.130m from the design underspend to give a full construction budget of £2.287m;

3) endorse commencement of a procurement process under Lot 6 of the Highways Construction Framework, for a construction contractor to start work on site in January 2024 and completion in December 2024; and

4) delegate to the Director Place Services the making of the award of the construction contract, subject to all necessary Traffic Regulation Order processes having been completed.
